Scholarship Details

Free to Roam Adventures is committed to increasing the accessibility of the gap year for all students. We offer 1 need-based scholarship for gap year counseling services to a senior graduating from a U.S. high school.

Note: This scholarship is for gap year counseling services. The scholarship does not include direct financial support. We can assist in identifying financial aid resources and low-cost gap year opportunities, but do not provide direct financial support.

2024 application deadline: april 30

The Gap Year Counseling Scholarship includes access to the DIY Gap Year Toolkit, 6 hours of virtual meetings with Susan to structure Gap Year Plans, and unlimited email support during the gap experience.

The DIY Gap Year Toolkit is a self-paced toolkit to guide motivated students in exploring gap year opportunities on their own. The toolkit includes: an Interactive Workbook with engaging exercises & planning tools; Access to a Member's Section of the website with Videos on Budgeting, Safety, Goal Setting, Step by Step Guidance for How to Launch Your Gap Year, and more; access to a Curated Gap Year Activity/Program Resource List.

Scholarship applicants should be willing to share their gap year experiences via occasional blog posts and photos.

Current high school senior planning to begin their gap experience during the summer or fall of 2023
Must demonstrate financial need
Able and willing to communicate with gap year counselor openly & within a reasonable timeframe
